For us, moving from being a functional CIO into being an innovation leader of business strategist, there's been a progressive journey We have to demonstrate, to begin with, competence and initiative and once we do that we start to garner trust from the wider peers
Once we've garnered trust then we start to build on that with credibility I think there's an analogy that I use which is you get invited to meetings after decisions have taken when you're a support function As things improve and you become more of a strategic partner, you are asked to come to the meetings where they're making the decision As you become an innovation leader you're actually the one calling those meetings
